Tom and Sharon began touring the United States on October 9, 2012, the date Gather at the Table was published. They spent much of the following 6 months on the road, visiting 30 cities in 15 states.

After Gather at the Table was named Best Nonfiction Book (Biography & Memoir) at the Phillis Wheatley Book Awards for Nonfiction, and with the release of GATT in Paperback in October 2013, Sharon and Tom actively seek additional opportunities for appearances at schools and organizations, book readings, in-store events, and media interviews.

2015 Appearances

April 2, 2015 (5:00-6:00pm): Gallery talk against the backdrop of artwork depicting the Civil War and slavery. Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art; 600 Museum Way; Bentonville, Arkansas.

January 28, 2015: DePauw University Dialogue, Greencastle, Indiana. All classes and offices closed at DePauw for the first time in more than 100 years for a campus-wide discussion on diversity and inclusion. Sharon and Tom are one of two featured presentations to lead into small-group discussion among an estimated 3,000 participants.

February 15 – 16, 2015: St. Louis College of Pharmacy, St. Louis, Missouri. A three-day residency to include workshop, large-group presentations, screening of Traces of the Trade, meetings with students, faculty, staff etc. in connection with community-wide conversations and challenges following the death of Michael Brown in nearby Ferguson.
