Let’s cut right to the chase…

Sharon and Tom were interviewed at 30 Rock on Sunday, October 21, 2012 by Melissa Harris-Perry on her MSNBC show. The first segment (view it here) was with just Tom & Sharon). The second segment (view it here) included Matt Miller, MSNBC contributor and Washington Post correspondent, and Salamishah Tillet, author of Sites of Slavery.

Average viewership for the MHP show means that half a million (plus) people were introduced to Gather at the Table today. Check out the photos on our Facebook page.

  1. Congratulations, Sharon and Tom — yours was a powerful interview this morning, and it's generated a lot of interest and new awareness online. I hope many viewers are motivated to read the book, which I know they'll find equally moving and enlightening.

This was a very refreshing interview with Sharon and Tom. Through their long journey of discovery, looking for answers, one can see that with dialogue and much understanding, we can learn to appreciate each other's history, no matter the differences, and come to care for, and love each other. As Tom mentioned, many people have no concept of what slavery and the ancestors of slaves have endured. I will definitely read this book and recommend it to my friends and family.

Great show today. The focus and remembrance of slavery is its historical context is very necessary today for national perspective. To understand how we find ourselves as a people, culture, & diaspora of that slave legacy today and how we can continue to strive and progress, that understanding is very necessary. Congrats on your accomplishments. Read my story. Its more of a perspective on the causation and ramifications of that history. http://www.rodneykneely.com

I would like to have a discussion about being both a descendent of a slave and the descendant of the slave master.
