Writer’s Paradise

Feeling the glee of being free in Tobago

Writing is never easy. It is hard to sort through the cacophony of messages reeling in one’s head and condense them down into readable form. But that is exactly what a writer must do.

In collaborating with Tom DeWolf,  I face the prospect of filling more than two hundred pages of a book that communicates a panorama of social and personal history. What is America’s legacy in slavery? What does that mean to people today? Is it possible to heal from that legacy? Why should anyone care?

In pondering these weighty issues, it occurred to us both that there could be no better course than to decamp from from everyday life and retreat to a place where thoughts and conversations might be unfettered.

Tobago was absolutely an inspired choice!
